Personal Success Definition

I define a successful person as someone who is able to achieve their goals in a way that improves their lives and above all the lives of those around them.

AOC had strived to go into politics for her whole life and won a difficult race in 2018. Since then she has been a political icon and fought to better the lives of people in her district and around the country.

Skills for Success

Bill Gates is a 1) computer programmer, 2) smart businessman and 3) poker player.  Bill was interested in computers from an early age and learned to write small computer programs.  He was also very smart, “Gates graduated from Lakeside School in 1973. He scored 1590 out of 1600 on the SAT[18] and subsequently enrolled at Harvard College in the autumn of 1973.[19] Prior to the mid-1990s, an SAT score of 1590 corresponded roughly to an IQ of 170. . . ” – Wikipedia.  Bill quit Harvard to start a computer programming company that wrote programs for one of the first hobbyist computers, the MITS Altair 8800. He was also an avid poker player.

AOC is an 1) passionate public servant, 2) talented debater, and 3) strategic politician. AOC had wanted to improve the lives of people in her community for her whole life and didi what she could even before she was a politician to serve. AOC is also known as a skilled debater, she is assertive with her opponents and knows how to convey her points. Lastly, AOC is strategic with how she funs her races and conducts herself in the public eye.

How They Used These Skills

AOC being an average citizen along with passionate public servant made her more appealing to her constituents in the sense that they were being represented by someone who could relate to them. Her debate skills also served her well during her congressional race and on the floor. AOC’s intelligence helped her during her race as well as she knew how to appeal to her voters.

Challenges Overcome

Arguably, the biggest challenges that AOC had (and still has) to overcome are simply the norms in American politics. The typical congressperson is an old, rich, conservative, white man. AOC is none of those things, and she beat out a 10 year incumbent who was all of those things. She and other congresspeople are in a constant battle to deviate from the norms and push forward.

Significant Work

AOC has popularized the idea of a Green New Deal, which is notable in the sense that this is a very new and “out there” idea that most congressmen would’ve seen as outlandish or unrealistic. But, AOC understood the importance of the policy and was able to propose it in an easily digestible way for the house and electorate.
